About the illustration
Introduced by the Lee Tex Rubber Products Corp. in April 1936 this was a licensable toy made of cardboard. They made a version of these when I was kid, I believe they called them “flyback paddles” or paddle ball toy. Those were made of cheap plywood with a long, thin rubber band stapled to the paddle, at the other was a foam rubber ball. It was not exactly high tech or fun for the uncoordinated. The version I was reproducing from was licensed by Morton’s Salt which was probably used as promotional giveaway of some kind. This particular toy was introduced in 1936. Three years before the radio show would air on April 5th, 1939 and sponsored by Popsicle.

This was very detailed illustration and took a while to reproduce, the spring section was the biggest challenge.
